Betley Indoor Bowling Club

The "Betley Indoor Bowling Club" plays short mat bowls throughout the winter season at the village hall. It is a social activity where players get the chance to meet new people and join in some friendly competition.

It is a game where men and women play on equal terms, and a gentle way of exercising many parts of the body. No previous playing experience is necessary as existing members fall over themselves to help with guidance and advice.

Our start time is 13.30 on Wednesdays, and we aim to have finished the games and cleared the mats and equipment away by 16.00. At the midpoint break we pause for tea and biscuits.

Competing pairs or triples are selected at random on the day, (2 versus 2, or 3 versus 3), on each of the 3 mats. Each player has 2 bowls (spares available for beginners) and plays with their partner/s for 8 ends. Those bowls closest to the jack (target bowl) at the completion of each end, score points. After the 8 ends have been played, the team with the highest accumulated score wins the match.

In addition to the Wednesday sessions, we also have arrangements with a local club to play friendly matches.

To round things off at the end of the season we go out to one of the local restaurants for a Sunday lunch. This is normally held in April and is followed by the Annual General Meeting.

Our new season commences on Wednesday October 11th 2023, The fee for the season membership is £10, and you pay a playing fee of £3 for each session, which includes tea/coffee and biscuits.

We currently have 25 members of which typically 18 turn up to play each week. Why not come along to one of our sessions to see if you like it, or contact Tony Turner by email at arturner.uk@gmail.com or phone 07721 939501 and leave a message
